Tuesday's are for Laced with Grace Posts!
Today.... "Hi, My name is Tracey, and I'm not God"
My contribution to CWO's "In Other Words"
Bonus update:
I promised to take Noah out to sled this afternoon.... afternoon gave way to evening...
But a Mom's gotta do, what A mom promised, doesn't she?
So- I give you moonlight sledding.
Good thing our yard is sloped- we didn't have to go far;)

Some pictures just make me smile--- this one does.
If it make you smile too---- then go vote for it @ clubmom!

Cereal. It is a miracle food. It serves nourishment (of some disputed degree) for so many purposes:
Breakfast- with milk- starts the day of children and adults.
In a zip-loc baggie it quells the voracious hunger of the most ravenous children.
Teens eat bowl after bowl, their bodies using it to fuel their pubescent growth spurt (along with ramen noodles and taco-bell the 3 food groups of teens) . (tee hee I said puberty)
Cereal is the meal replacement of choice- for picky preschoolers- everywhere. When served a wonderful meal of grilled tuna and couscous with a roasted vegetable medley....countless children have been rescued from sure starvation... by, yes, CEREAL.
Cereal is a snack, a meal, and once soggy- becomes a handy way to gross out your mother.
Cereal- once soggy- then dried to a crust of incredible strength, cereal can be used as a replacement for tar, mortar, spackle, wood putty and ashphalt. Soggy cereal can also be used to sculpt furniture.
Cereal- as the one shown in the picture- often times serves as a life lesson in scientific practices... a youngster practices for his future career as an archeologist, or forensic scientist. He carefully uses his tools to extricate ONLY the marshmallows- to be inspected and savored like treasure.
It is true- it is surreal--- it is cereal.
Unbelievable- multi-tasker that it is--- what I'd like to know- is simply this:
Why will my dog seek out the tiniest bit of food from the floor and eat it--- UNLESS my four year old spills a box of cereal..... THAT she (the Sami dog) will leave. ONly to find it's way into every nook and cranny of my home... from under the cushions of my couch, to under the throw rug- to the upstairs bathroom floor...... cereal. Cereal! I'm surrounded!
Cereal. CEREAL! It's SURREAL!
That is all- I need to go vacuum. EVERYTHING.
PS--- the "marshmallows" that are in cereal. ARE NOT MARSHMALLOWS. I am not sure what they are--- but they are NOT MARSHMALLOWS. the end.

It's always the quiet ones---- and often- at our house at least--- it's ALWAYS at dinner, when they pop off with a good one;)
I am forever surprised by both the wisdom and hilarity that flows from my kids mouths--- (ummm sometimes I'm shocked- too-I'm wondering when they will outgrow their affections for potty humor but, that's besides the point)
Anyways---
While discussing "political correctness" other sundry issues of current culture- both pro and con- we talked about how nice it is to be able to go out to dinner without having asthmatic reactions to second hand smoke. We're relieved that many places are now "smoke free.
At that point, Matt- the middle son- said
"Too bad they can't do something about second hand stupid--- it affects a lot of people at school"
ie: you hang with stupid people and they make you stupid.
Hmmmm... I wonder if we could get legislation passed on that?????????
(although- I suppose I could find myself on the wrong side of the law on that one- ocassionally!)

Up close and personal with the blocked Shawl.... Forest Canopy by Susan Lawrence . A great, simple lace pattern. I knit it on US #7, Lantern Moon 24" Circular Needle.
It's almost exactly 2 balls of "Violetta" Kid Silk Haze

I added repeats to make it bigger--- I can count them up if anyone is wondering--- however- I just went with using up the 2 balls of KSH that I had:)

Then-- I cast on for "Jaywalker socks" By Grumperina I know they've been EVERYWHERE--- and I'm probably the LAST KNITTER on Earth to cast them on.... but here they are cast on yesterday- and cruising right along! Should start the heel flap tonight, at least.
These are in Austermann STEP sock yarn... on Knit picks DPN's US Size 1. Color way is labeled red/gray # 18, I believe.
I listened to a terrific podcast today- Trinity Church- a Pastor on staff there is a friend- Alan Cullen- He preached-Jan 7th -- I highly recommend it for a great challenge to SLOW DOWN--- you can find the podcast on Itunes- by searching for Trinity Church- Lansing MI... or direct from the website- by clicking HERE.
Interestingly- a lot of knitting- going on here lately--- which means a lot of thinking---- for me knitting is a way to sit and think--- without guilt--- or boring myself to death.. or falling asleep! Thoughts to be expressed in the near future- I promise- ;)

Kidsilk Haze "Violetta"

Forest Canopy Shawl- from "I'm knitting as fast as I can" US #7 Lantern Moon Circulars I'm at 12 repeats.... am making it bigger;)

I'm thinking blocking will work it's magic.... but not sure about this at this point... totally went a different route than the recommended yarn....

Looks a little like my cat ate Barney and responded as I do when I hear Barney... By puking.

This is our vampiress Cat--- Truffles Biscotti: AKA Blit. (Short for blitiot) She purrs when you come near her. This saves her life-and her place in our home. Because outside of that- she's nocturnal (ummm we're not) she's clumsy, (falls off of things even though she DOES have her claws...our declawed cat is graceful. Never falls and is Perfect. (Cappucino- AKA: Keeb) She also likes laundry. A LOT. Things I think everyone should listen to: This weeks "Mars Hill" message originally given to Pastors at an Acts 29 gathering. I rec this for anyone who shares their faith or teaches.. Ravi Zacharias Just Thinking and Let My People Think. For any Christian. Trinity Church Podcast in Lansing MI--- esp this weeks with Mark Kring For anyone.
Post Christmas knitting update... after 11 pair of felted clogs..... I needed to do some fun knitting;) And a bit of finishing....
So we have a Noro Silk Garden lite wrap in a basket weave pattern.

A pair of Knitty's "Fetching" mits with a cabled headband to coordinate , in Berrocco alpaca...

Next, I started a "Forest Canopy" Shawl in Kidsilk Haze....the best purple.

Finally- Clapotis #5 in Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb- Black Pearl colorway.

Just a random Noah moment----yesterday- while eating his Ravioli from a can for lunch... he got very serious....
"Mommy, I have something I always wanted to tell you..."
As a mom of teens AND a little guy- that phrase made me a little nervous---- would it be a confession? An imponderable question? NOPE.
"What, honey?" I implored.
"You're beautiful" He said- to my yet to shower or run a brush through my wild haired surprise.
The best part? I think he meant it.
I love being a Mom.
